Every year, my students and I set clear class promises for expectations of behavior, learning, routines, procedures, and organization of our classroom together. My students can take ownership and hold their peers accountable for our promises as we created them together. In turn, this helps foster a structured and loving learning environment.
I believe that forming authentic and meaningful relationships with students is the most powerful classroom management tool. I aim to connect with each of my students personally whether it's through our morning meetings, lunch bunches, or outside of school by attending their sporting activities.
While often overlooked, I have strong communication skills with students and parents, contributing to an overall positive classroom environment. Effectively communicating with parents through weekly newsletters and daily announcements has been a great way to maintain collaborative relationships with parents.
One way I do this is by using a variety of teaching strategies that incorporate visual, auditory, and hands-on activities. I also implement flexible grouping during instruction to promote collaboration among my students. On the other hand, students with similar learning needs are also grouped to tailor to more individualized focus areas.
I stay informed on the latest research and best practices in elementary education. Continuous professional development ensures that my classroom management skills align with current best practices. This, in turn, helps me create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters my students' academic and personal growth.
As a teacher, I've found that flexible seating is crucial for creating a dynamic and engaging classroom environment. It allows students to choose seating that best supports their learning styles, promoting engagement and collaboration. This autonomy helps them develop independence and responsibility. Flexible seating also supports differentiated instruction by creating zones for various activities, improving focus, behavior, and overall well-being. Ultimately, it has transformed my classroom into a more inviting and student-centered space that meets diverse needs and fosters a positive learning atmosphere.
